Local government works best when community voices step forward.
You do not need to be a politician to run for local office.
Across communities in British Columbia, local leaders come from all walks of life. They may be teachers in our schools, the clerk at the grocery store, the owner of a small business, a parent volunteering in the community, or the person beside you in a yoga class.
They are people who care about where they live and want to help shape the future of the community.
If you are passionate about Armstrong and want to contribute to the direction of the community, consider running for local office.
Every four years, Armstrong residents elect a Mayor, six Councillors, and School Trustees for School District No. 83 (North Okanagan–Shuswap). These elected leaders make decisions that affect everyday life in the community, including local services, planning, infrastructure, parks, recreation, and how public funds are invested.
Candidate INFORMATION
Candidate Eligibility
You may run for office in the City of Armstrong if you meet all of the following requirements:
- You are a Canadian citizen
- You are 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day
- You have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before filing nomination papers
- You are not disqualified under the Local Government Act or other legislation
You do not need to live in Armstrong or own property in the City to run for office.
Nomination Process
The nomination period for the 2026 General Local Election is:
September 1, 2026 at 9 a.m. to September 11, 2026 at 4 p.m.
During this time, candidates must submit completed nomination documents to the City of Armstrong Chief Election Officer, by appointment only.

Your nomination must include signatures from at least two qualified City of Armstrong electors, as required by the Local Government Act.
Candidate nomination packages will be available in August 2026.

Important dates for individuals considering running for office in the 2026 General Local Election include:
July 20 – September 18, 2026: Pre-campaign period (election advertising rules apply)
August 2026: Candidate nomination packages available from the City of Armstrong
August 26, 2026: Candidate information session. (City Hall 6:30 p.m.)
September 1, 2026 – 9 a.m.: Nomination period opens
September 11, 2026 – 4 p.m.: Nomination period closes
September 11, 2026: Declaration of candidates
September 19 – October 17, 2026: Campaign period
October 7 & 14, 2026: Advance Voting (8 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
October 17, 2026: General Voting Day (8 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
October 21, 2026: Declaration of official election results
November 2026: Inaugural Council Meeting and Oaths of Office
