Veterans Way Honours Armstrong’s Veterans at Memorial Park
Armstrong, B.C. –The City of Armstrong is pleased to recognize Veterans Way, the newly named pathway leading from the entrance of Memorial Park to the cenotaph.
The initiative builds on the veterans crosswalk installed at the entrance to Memorial Park in July and creates a meaningful connection from the crosswalk to the cenotaph.
The project began when the Royal Canadian Legion approached Armstrong City Council with the idea of a commemorative veterans crosswalk and the honorary naming of Veterans Way.
Following the installation of the crosswalk, Council directed staff to work with the Armstrong Spallumcheen Parks & Recreation Commission on the Veterans Way initiative within Memorial Park. The Commission supported naming the pathway leading to the cenotaph Veterans Way, along with a refresh of the existing park signage to recognize the new honorary name.
“The veterans crosswalk and Veterans Way create a meaningful path leading to one of our community’s most important places of remembrance,” said Mayor Joe Cramer. “It is a lasting way to recognize the service and sacrifice of the veterans who have served our community and our country.”
Together, the veterans crosswalk, Veterans Way and the cenotaph create a visible path of remembrance through Memorial Park and a lasting tribute to veterans, past and present.
The City thanks the Royal Canadian Legion and the Armstrong Spallumcheen Parks & Recreation Commission for helping bring the initiative to life.
