Use of City Property, Roads, Sidewalks and Facilities
The City of Armstrong reminds residents, businesses, community organizations, and event organizers that authorization is required before using City-owned property, including roads, sidewalks, boulevards and other public spaces.
Permits help ensure that public spaces remain safe, accessible and available for everyone. They also allow the City to review activities for potential impacts to pedestrians, traffic, emergency access, infrastructure and neighbouring properties.
Activities that may require a permit include, but are not limited to:
- Special events, festivals and community gatherings
- Parades, organized group runs and walks
- Temporary road or sidewalk closures
- Sidewalk patios, displays or merchandise placed on public sidewalks
- Tents, stages, inflatables or temporary structures
- Organized activities in parks or public spaces
- Commercial or promotional activities on City property
Obtaining the appropriate permit helps to:
- Protect public safety
- Maintain accessibility for all users
- Ensure emergency vehicle access is preserved
- Protect City infrastructure from damage
- Clarify insurance and liability requirements
Individuals or organizations using City property without the required approvals may be held responsible for any resulting damages, injuries or costs.
If you’re planning to use public property, we’re here to help and we encourage you to contact us early in the planning process. Our goal is to help make your event or activity safe, successful, and enjoyable for everyone.
