City of Armstrong Begins Demolition of Former City Hall
and Chamber of Commerce Buildings on Bridge Street

Armstrong, BC – The City of Armstrong will soon begin the demolition of the former City Hall and Chamber of Commerce buildings located on Bridge Street, marking an important step toward future redevelopment of the site.

Following detailed assessments, the buildings were determined to be in a condition where the cost of upgrading and repurposing is no longer feasible. In addition, hazardous materials were identified on site that require careful removal in accordance with provincial regulations. For these reasons, demolition was determined to be the most responsible and practical course of action.

The City has retained Roc Doc Ventures Ltd., an experienced regional contractor, to carry out both the hazardous material abatement and demolition work. Safety is a top priority throughout this process. The site will be fully fenced, and public access, including parking, will be restricted for the duration of the demolition.

While these buildings have played a meaningful role in Armstrong’s history, this transition represents an opportunity to reimagine the space in a way that better serves the community now and into the future.

The demolition aligns with Council’s Strategic Plan, in which redevelopment of this site is identified as a key strategic action. Looking ahead, the City will be exploring a range of potential options for the site that support a vibrant and evolving downtown area. This may include opportunities that encourage a mix of residential, commercial, and community-focused uses, contributing to a more dynamic, inclusive and sustainable city.

The City appreciates the community’s understanding during this process and looks forward to engaging residents and stakeholders as plans for the site evolve.
